The hotel manager, following the conversation
intently, seemed strangely unaware of what was
being said; his face a set grinning mask.

   As far as Dannaks could tell there were no
women present. He was part of the loose inner
circle of five men. Beyond them, distance
diminishing their importance, was a cluster of
ranking officers. Further still were a line of hotel
staff and two waiters at the display table of
colourful cocktails. Finally there were the uniforms
standing like sentries at the entrances.

   The boy officer spoke to his superior, a much
older man in the full parade regalia of the Turkish
National police with colours and medals,
highlighting the lack of adornment on the younger
man's uniform.

   The superior's answer, like all his answers since
meeting, was measured and clipped.

   "Ten o'clock," the boy translated.
   Reupke nodded and the hotel manager did too.
But Dannaks stopped the officers leaving. "To
show us the body and photographs."
   Being shown the body was the reason for
picking them up tomorrow. In the car on the way
to the hotel Reupke had asked about seeing the
