said he was not authorised to answer such a
question. His superior had ridden in the limousine
in front of them.

   Irritation flashed across the youth's face before
he spoke to his brass superior. For that is how he
appeared to Dannaks. He was too old to be called
bronzed. He was tanned and hard. The orange
tinge to his skin, remnants of freckles, the gold
bracelet of his expensive looking timepiece, the
fair close-cropped hair and his overall stockiness
reminded him of Gert Fröbe, the actor who had

played the villain Goldfinger in the James Bond film

of the same name. Dannaks watched him. His
expression remained impassive, but this time his
reply was not immediately forthcoming.

   Even the hotel manager had suppressed his fake
smile in favour of mimicking Goldfinger's
expression.

   Dannaks didn't need his smattering of Turkish to
register the annoyance in the man's words. When
Goldfinger finished speaking the young man said:
"Yes." He then chose his words carefully. "Deputy
Director General Özüdogru wants me to repeat
that you are here as our guests." The tone
